Different types of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a type of disease where a tumor develops from breast cells. This disease is mainly found among the females. This can be further categorized into different types. As such, there is a need for accurate diagnosis so that the treatment can be started at the earliest.

Breast cancer can start in any tissue of the breast. They are named according to the particular quality of the disease and each one varies in their diagnosis and symptoms. Let us begin with invasive (or infiltrating) ductal carcinoma. This is one of the most common types of breast cancer accounting for 70% of the total occurrences of the disease. This cancer starts from the breast and gradually spreads to the rest of the body. Invasive (or infiltrating) lobular carcinoma is the second most common type, infected in ten percent of the cases. Medullary carcinoma cancer is found only in three to six percent of cases and in particular among women with genetic history of breast cancer. Paget disease is another form of cancer, which is found in two to three percent of the cases. This normally affects the area around the nipple and its symptom includes itching and redness around that area.

Inflammatory breast cancer is very rare but at the same time is a very violent type of breast cancer. As the name suggests, its symptoms include the breast appearing swollen and red or inflamed. Even men could become victim of it. Its treatment includes chemotherapy, targeted therapy, surgery, radiation therapy and normal therapy. Cyst sarcoma phyllodes tumors are rare fibrolpithelial tumor. This form of cancer is a little different from the others. According to the data collected by cancer surveillance program 1972 – 98 Loss Angell County shows that this cancer is at the peak in 45 – 49 years old age group. Beside this, there are other rare forms of cancer of invasive ductal carcinoma.

Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer to be found among females. This is one of the major causes of cancer related deaths. In United States of America nearly 200,000 are diagnosed with breast cancer gradually leading to 40,000 deaths annually. Factors like age that is over 50, first pregnancy post 30 years, synthetic hormone replacement therapy, reaching puberty before 12 years of age, menopause after 50, null parity are a few risk factors that could lead to cancer.

Breast cancer includes in itself not just one but a number of different types of cancers that may occur in the breast. Sometimes, it is further put into different categories on the basis of study made on microscopic examination of the breast tissue obtained through the biopsy sample. And at the same, it has to be kept in mind that no two persons are alike and hence treatment varies from person to person according to the type of cancer one is suffering from.
